1st and 2nd Thessalonians

This week we went through the books of Thessalonians with Dan Brown. And it was really neat to walk through it in-depthly to understand the importance of context. To understand the that the book wasn't written for us, but to the people of that time, but that we can still apply it to our lives today as believers. And I have written a paper on it, and would like to share it with you. I hope you enjoy it and can grow in it as I have. Enjoy!

                                                          1st and 2nd Thessalonians
These books are written in the hand of the apostle Paul. Formerly known as Saul who despised and murdered Christians for their faith in Christ. But God had big plans for Paul and thus changed his heart and also changed his name to Paul. Since then, there hasn't been a more godly man found in the New Testament. Paul was now on the run with the Christians and not on the hunt for them.
To understand the language that Paul uses in his letter to the Thessalonians, we need to go back to Acts 17:1-9, and this is where we find the context of that time. And as we begin to see the picture put together, we see that it was one of the worst times to be a christian. In fact, it was the second most dangerous place on earth to be a christian! In verse two we see that Paul and Silas were there for three weeks and not too much longer, proclaiming the gospel of Christ, and as we read onward, we see that many of the Gentiles and the Jews and "leading women" were coming to know that Lord. (Leading women, if we look at it in-depth, we come to the understanding that leading women here translates as women that were married to very powerful men.)  This displeased the Jews greatly. They couldn't have people in the position of power, coming to know the Lord. So they plotted to kill Paul and Silas. But because the Jews weren't in authority to do so, and we discover as we look deeper that the judge wasn't in at that time, they forced Jason and the brothers to "post bond"-promising to hand them over for trial. But that night Jason and the brothers sent Paul and Silas away, and therefore they weren't able to come back for quite sometime, because of the pending future trial. While Paul and Silas were gone, the Christians back in Thessalonica were severely persecuted for their new faith. And when Paul finally found out that his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ were still alive, he wrote to them these letters, imploring them to continue and hold steadfast. To persevere and "fight the good fight," as they suffered and suffered, for Christ IS coming back...
What can I take from this? How do I imitate Christ? To live out the image of Christ-clearly. To live in such a way that is not of this world, but opposite from it. To be set apart and proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. To turn from my idols. To turn from that which keeps me from Christ. To leave them at the cross as often as my sinful nature wants to pick them up again.
Persecution was a part of normal life for the Thessalonians...am I will ti suffer for the sake of Christ? To take comfort in the coming of THE Judge and to stand firm through trials and persecutions? Will I be on the welcoming committee of Christ when He returns? This is my hope as I continually grow in Christ and to be wholly open for the work of Christ and His work through me. As I'm being equipped to preach the gospel and not be afraid to bear his name for the fear of mere persecution, which is "nothing compared to the glory that is to be revealed..." Romans 8:18. I mustn't "quench the spirit!" 1 Thessalonians 5:19. The Spirit wants to talk about Christ-always. His job in me is to proclaim His name. So I need to open my mouth. I mustn't fear man. For they can do nothing to me with God on my side!
"Faithful is He who calls you and He also will bring it to pass." 1 Thessalonians 5:24. We NEVER have to question God's faithfulness to His children.

Malachi

So two weeks ago I went through the book of Malachi with the guest speaker Satish John. And I learned a lot. And wrote a paper on it, and would like to share that with you, if that's alright? I hope you enjoy it!

                                                                  The Book Of Malachi
Malachi is the last book in the minor prophets. The book of Malachi is about a broken Covenant between God and his people-the people of Israel. And he is restoring that covenant in showing them where they have failed-where they have gone wrong. We cannot tell where we have gone wrong, if we have not been corrected. It's very interesting to look at the attitude of the people of Israel and how applicable it is to the people of today's society.
We should; fear him, honor him, love him, respect him, and serve him...and this is the basic problem in this broken covenant. They no longer feared or respected God. So, what does it mean to fear him? It means to be in reverence to him. To respect him in such a way, to honor God in such a way as to be conscious of the presence of God. Sadly, in modern society, we don't fear Him as we should. And often, it is because the fear of God has not been properly explained.
"Now Israel, what does the Lord your God require from you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, and to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul ad to keep the Lord's commandments and His statutes which I am commanding you today for your good." Deutoronomy 10:12-13
What I've taken from this is; is everything that I am acceptable to the Lord? Is everything open and available to His work through my life? And if so, am I experiencing the Spirit of God working through my life?
My life as a christian is not about me in any way. It is not about me being like Jesus, but God being God through my life as I bear His image in me. I must remember that God is the giver of everything! All that I am and have is His, and He needs to be number one in my life. I only have one purpose in life...to reflect the image of Christ in everything. To fear Him in holy reverence and to be consciously aware of His presence in everything around me and where He's taking me through it. And what an awesome privilege that is!
"Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord gave attention ad heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before Him for those who fear the Lord and who esteem His name." Malachi 3:16

"How Can I Best Reflect The Image of Christ?" -His Hill Capernwray Bible School- 2014

Wow...it has been so terribly long since I have written, and I'm truly sorry for that. Life has basically picked up speed since I last wrote back in February as I prepared for my graduation! I started a full time job, which took up about 85% of my day, and then my family, friends and boyfriend took up the other 15%. God taught me a lot over the summer, and I have gone through a lot of pain and growth which has molded me and prepared me for the new school year. Which is where my journey in this life will hopefully pick up once again in weekly updates. But, I refuse to make you all a promise, for I do not know if i can hold to that. But please rest assure that I will do m best to keep up this form of communication when I have a spare moment. Back in February-I believe it was then....I was accept to a Capernwray Bible School in Comfort, Texas! And as of September 10th, this is where I have been! So much has happened, that I do not know where to begin in updating you in my story! So I will just dive into the story, and hope that it all connects and makes sense to you!
I have already been learning and growing tremendously as I am immersed in God's word daily. It's really pushed me to evaluate my walk with Him, and to recognize his presence in my life in everything that surrounds me in this crazy world! I have really been hit with the fact that...this life is not about me in any shape or form...but it is all about Him. Who is God in my life, and where is He? First of all, my purpose in life is to reflect the image of God to His glory in absolutely every area of my life...and the question that I seek to pursue and discern in this year is, How can I best reflect that Image that I'm called to bear? And that my friends...is the theme of this  year, and as I walk in it...will update you in the pursuit of this answer as He slowly reveals His will and calling of my life as I walk the path marked out for me.
Something that I'm really chewing on and can't shake is...the Christian life is not about me being like Jesus. But it is about God being God through my life-which is His life to begin with. He bought me and owns me, Galatians 2:20-21 (which is our theme verses for His Hill) And i'm put on this earth to serve Him and make his name known. And to consider the cost and whether it's worth it....and it is. I want to be a living sacrifice-Holy and pleasing to Him. Romans 12:1-2. I'm so excited to be stretched and humbled and be forced on my knees. I'm so excited to share this journey with "ya'll" and let you in on that process. Please forgive me, for where I let too much time elapse between us. And please pray for me, as I'm far away from home and it is the hardest test that I will endure this year...and may you blessed as I share my heart.

In Christ Alone, we stand untied....Lisa
